we wanna learn about counting units
in korean there is a lot of words that used as counting units, but now we just wanna learn 2 of them
the first is for counting things for now we use general counter 개 (gae)
how we used it?noun + number + counter word
example
pencil = 연필 (yeonpil)
one = 하나 (hana)
counter = 개 (gae)
one pencil = 연필 한 개 (yeonpil han gae) *remember that hana change to be han
actually pencil has its own counters but it can replaced by 개 (gae)
but there is some counters that never replaced by 개 (gae)
example
car = 차 (cha)
one = 하나 (hana)
counter = 대 (dae)
one car = 차 한 대 (cha han dae) can not change to be 차 한 개 (cha han gae)
why 대 (dae) can not change with 개 (gae) like 자루 (jaru) [pencil counter] replaced by 개 (gae)?
it just because of 대 (dae) much more frequently used than 자루 (jaru) the pencil counter
car = 차 (cha)
one = 하나 (hana)
counter = 대 (dae)
one car = 차 한 대 (cha han dae) can not change to be 차 한 개 (cha han gae)
why 대 (dae) can not change with 개 (gae) like 자루 (jaru) [pencil counter] replaced by 개 (gae)?
it just because of 대 (dae) much more frequently used than 자루 (jaru) the pencil counter
the 2nd counter is 명 (myeong).
명 (myeong) used for counting people
and if u use counters, most of time they used with native korean numbers.
example
apple = 사과 (sagwa)
stones = 돌 (dol)
balls = 공 (gong)
one apple = 사과 한 개 (sagwa han gae)
two stones = 돌 두 개 (dol du gae)
five balls= 공 다섯 개 (gong daseot gae)
how many (things) = 몇 개 (myeot gae)
now lets see to the example of counting people
one person = 한 명 (han myeong)
two students = 학생 두 명 (haksaeng du myeong)
three friends = 친구 세 명 (chingu se myeong)
how many (people) = 몇 명 (myeot myeong)
example
A : 몇 명 있어요? (myeot myeong isseoyo?) = how many people are tere?
B : 10 명 있어요 (yeol myeong isseoyo) = there are 10 peoples
here s some oter counters
마리 (mari) = animals
대 (dae) = cars
권 (gwon) = books
장 (jang) = paper, pages,ticket
hope it will useful 4 you ^_^annyeonghigyeseyo
see you at next part ^_^
