Korean Learn (Level 2 part 8) [telling Time]

lets learn how to talk about time ^_^

in korean there are 2 number systems
yes sino korean numbers and native korean number

for telling time we use both of korean numbers

we must tell the hour with native korean numbers and tell the minutes with sino korean numbers

lets review the native korean numbers ^_^
1 하나 (hana)
2 둘 (dul)
3 셋 (set)
4 넷 (net)
5 다섯 (daseot)
6 여섯 (yeoseot)
7 일곱 (ilgop)
8 여덟 (yeodeol)
9 아홉 (ahop)
10 열 (yeol)
11 열하나 (yeolhana)
12 열둘 (yeoldul)

we just review it until 12 cuz we use 12 hour time and do you remember that 1,2,3, and 4 are change a litle?

네, 맞아요
hana change to be han-
dul change to be du-
set change to be se-
and net change to be ne-

now how we tell the hour???
add 시 (si) after the number


example
1 o'clock = 한 시 (han si) *hana change to be han
2 o'clock = 두 시 (du si)
3 o'clock = 세 시 (se si)
4 o'clock = 네 시 (ne si)
5 o'clock = 다섯 시 (daseot si)
etc.


now lets review the sino korean number, do you remember??
1 일 (il)
2 이 (i)
3 삼 (sam)
4 시 (sa)
5 오 (o)
6 욕 (yuk)
7 칠 (chil)
8 팔 (phal)
9 구 (gu)
10 십 (sip)
11 십일 (sipil)
12 십이 (sipi)
20 이십 (isip)
30 삼십 (samsip)
etc.

now how to tell the minutes?
its easy just add 분 (bun) after the numbers


example
일 분 (il bun) = 1 minutes
십오 분 (sibo bun) = 15 minutes
오십오 분 (osibo bun) = 55 minutes

now lets combine it
1.05 = 한 시 오 분 (han si o bun)
1.15 = 한 시 십오 분 (han si sibo bun)
10.30 = 열 시 삼십 분 (yeol si samsip bun)
10.30 = 열 시 반 (yeol si ban)

*ban (반) mean "half" only 30 bun that have another word 15 minuts not have it only 30 that have ^_^
*and for o'clock sharp just add 정각 (jeong-gak) after the time example 8 o'clock sharp 여덟 시 정각 (yeodeol si jeonggak)

now how we asked the time??

지금 몇 시예요? (jigeum myeot siyeyo?) = wat time is it now?

or you can asked

지금 몇 시 몇 분이에요? (jigeum myeot si myeot bunieyo?) = what hour and what minute now?

and for answer it just say
지금 the time 이에요/예요

example
now is 8.15 = 지금 여덟 시 십오 분이에요 (jigeum yeodeol si sibo buniyeyo)

now lets see the sample sentences
내일 수업이 네 시 반에 끝나요 (naeil sueobi ne si bani kkeutnayo) = my classes finish at 4.30 tomorrow

오늘 몇 시에 친구를 만나요? (oneul myeot sie chingureul mannayo?) = what time do you meet your friend today?

for say am and pm you just need to add this word infront of the number of hours.

AM = 오전 (Ojeon)

PM = 오후 (Ohu)

example

8 AM o'clock =  오전 여덟 시 (ojeon yeodeol si)

hm now you can ask and say the time ^_^
