Korean Learn (Level 2 part 24) [still, already, not yet]

we are going to learn two expression this part ^_^

the first is 아직 (ajik) that means "still" and "not yet"

in english still is used for positive and yet is use for negative sentence but in korean 이직 (ajik) use for both

example
아직 10시예요 (ajik yeolsiyeyo) = its still 10 o'clock

아직 안 했어요 (ajik an haesseoyo) = I haven't done it yet

to emphasize the meaning of "still happening" or "still not happening" you can add the -도 (do) particle ater 아직 (ajik)

example
아직 몰라요? (ajik mollayo?) = you don't know yet?

아직도 몰라요? (ajikdo mollayo?) = you still don't know? / how could you still not know?

the second expressions is 벌써 (beolsseo) which means "already"

the usage of this wors is almost same with the word already in english, generally placed at the beginof sentence but not always there ^_^

example
벌써 세 시예요 (beolsseo se siyeyo) = its already 3 o'clock

세 시예요, 벌써! (se siyeyo, beolsseo!)= its 3 o'clock already!

both sentence are work

sample sentence
벌써 왔어요? (beolsseo oasseoyo?) =oh, you are already here!

벌써 끝났어요? (beolsseo kkeutnasseoyo?) = its already over? did it already finish?

another word that will often encounter when reading or listening korean and have the meaning of "already" is 이미 (imi)

it has the same means as 벌써 (beolsseo) which means "already" too

but in fact koreans often distinguish the mening of these two words

the different between 벌써 (beolsseo) and 이미 (imi)

if speakers already know about something and talk about it used 이미 (imi)

if the speakers just finding out about it when speak used 벌써 (beolsseo)

here the example that show the different bettween imi and beolsseo

Examples

그 사람은 이미 학교를 졸업했어요.[geu sa-ram-eun i-mi hak-gyo-reul jo-reo-pae-sseo-yo.]= He already graduated from school.

- You (and probably also the other person) have known about this fact since long before you say this sentence.)

그 사람은 벌써 학교를 졸업했어요![geu sa-ram-eun beol-sseo hak-gyo-reul jo-reo-pae-sseo-yo.]= He already graduated from school.

- You might have found out about this fact recently, or you already knew about this but the other person may have not known about it before you say it.

now you can say "still" , "not yet" and "already"

see you at next part and thanks for learning with me ^_^
